Little stuff that rocks for November 17, 2005

My first "real" entry - amid the dreck, things that rock in my life...

OK, I promised my friend Kirsten (who RAWKS) that I was gonna use LJ more. I just haven't had a lot of time lately, but I did want to go ahead and post something positive. Little things, you know, that get you through the day.

- Los Angeles chosen #1 worst smog city in the US. (File under "No shit, Sherlock!") Well, after the Lakers failed to make the playoffs, I guess La La Land had to be a winner at something...

- Go to Target. Go directly to the $1 section. Pick up a jar of "Cookie Cutouts" Body Butter. Pure yum for the nose and skin. I must grab more before the Holiday Season is over...

- Just want to pimp e.l.f. Cosmetics (www.eyeslipsface.com). Since my beloved agnes b. is no longer available stateside, I'm all about the cheap-but-good stuff. Everything they sell (aside from kits, collections, etc.) is only $1 each. And their customer service is terrific. It's just makeup, not skin care...

- My favorite eye candy of the month so far...

Archie Kao in his modelling days

What can I say. I think he's freaking gorgeous...:-)

- "CSI: Miami"'s episode "Nailed". Once you got past the cringe factor (a little easier after watching the ever charming/hot/hilarious Jonathan Togo undergo his makeup/prosthetics job on "Access Hollywood"), it was a terrific episode with a lot of heart. And that's from a hardcore "CSI" (original series) fan.

I still want to start a drinking game where you chug whenever David Caruso does The Thing With The Sunglasses...

- Trader Joe's. Specifically, the array of party-worthy munchies they have this time of year. Their chevres and stiltons (especially the blendeds) rock bigtime. Grab a bottle of Two Buck Chuck (the chardonnay is actually damn good) to go with it, and a slab of halvah or some of their flavored meringues for dessert...mmmmmmm........

- King's X are touring. Going to at least one show is imperative.

- "Snow Wonder" next Sunday night on CBS. I usually cringe at sappy holiday TV movies, but this one looks like it's going to be good. Hell, with Eric Szmanda, Camryn Manheim and Poppy Montgomery, how could it suck?

Course I tried to cut "Category 7: End Of The World" the same slack and was rewarded only with the word "dreck" crossing my mind frequently. Adam Rodriguez needs to spank his agent - and not in the good way. Ah well, every good actor has at least one stinker on their resume...

All the same, I'm betting "Snow Wonder" will be pretty kewl, and at least marginally rock...

- Dallas Mavericks comeback win tonight...down 19 in the mid-third, they got off their asses, Dirk Nowitzki went postal on offense, DeSagana Diop was killer on defense (16 boards, 6 blocks, both career highs...) and at the end of the night, even after a couple of nasty fouls being laid on him (including one uncalled and a flagrant-1 that should have been a F-2) Dirk scored 35 and made Carmelo Anthony look like the peach-faced student he is...Dallas 83 - Denver 80.

- Political cheekiness. Air America (I love you, Randi Rhodes!), "The Daily Show" (Comedy Central), "The Colbert Report" (Comedy Central), "Real Time with Bill Maher" (HBO - sadly on winter hiatus), and "Countdown with Keith Olberman" (MSNBC), and on the web, Daily Kos (www.dailykos.com) and my beloved hubby's Truth2Power (vyan.blogspot.com)...The spirit of the 60's lives!

Just a little collection of things that rock. I need to do this once in a while; the last couple years have been such a grind for me, focusing on the positive can only help. And a big fat I LOVE YOU to all my buddies who have been helping me through the crap by being the coolest friends ever, and my new fanfic fans who inspire me. (more coming, fear not!)

OK, how's that for a kickoff? ;-D

Yay! Robin is posting!!! *jumps happily*

I can't wait to catch King's X this time around. They'll probably play Top Cats here in Cincinnati again. Jess already said she's down for the show, so... right on. I'm sure Greg will come down for it, too. That is the one show he ALWAYS makes it down for. There are a billion others he will call me up and go, "I can get us in, let's go..." and then call the day of the show not able to go, but he always makes it to KX.

He is cute! Who is he? You know me. I watch SO much TV. ;)

I think CIncinnati is up there in smog factor, believe it or not.

OK... going to go finish attempting to get caught up. Right. :)

King's X are playing at the Galaxy down here. Bleh, remember that dump? (You went to one Dokken show there didn't you?) We'll go as long as we can either borrow the car or snag a ride...course if Fwankie gets the gig he's interviewing for Friday up in Sacramento (!), that might be a no-go...ah well...I've missed EVERYONE this year...Rush, Green Day, Foo Fighters...::sigh::

That gorgeous creature is Archie Kao, probably best known as Kai Chen, the blue Power Ranger from the "Lost Galaxy" era ('98/99), more currently playing Archie Johnson, the A/V lab tech on "CSI", and starring in the upcoming short feature "Fast Money" (http://www.fastmoneymovie.com/) which I can't wait to check out!

Yeah, L.A. gave up the Smog Crown to Houston for a while...I think they won it back by NOT having the readings here done by someone dangling off the end of Redondo Beach Pier at 2 a.m. Seriously, they went from a 1-hour to a 24-hour test and - you guessed it - we're notorious once more for our equivalent-of-a-pack-a-day air quality...

Gotta go get Frank's garment bag packed, woohoo...wish him success...

It would be ironic as hell if he ended up with a new job back in Sac! I hope everything turns out OK for him and he gets a good gig. That would rock.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cincinnati ranked in the top 10 for smog towns. I don't think it is that bad this time of the year, but it is pretty bad during the summer months.
